Will spot Ethereum ETFs be available in the US in the future?
On May 23, 2024, the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) approved spot Ethereum ETFs. Since then, rumors of a possible listing have been multiplying in the crypto ecosystem.
Securities and Exchange Commission Chairman Gary Gensler weighed in on Thursday June 13 on a possible start date for exchange trading of Ether-based spot ETFs.
In his speech to the U.S. Senate Appropriations Committee, the SEC President was very optimistic and confident. Indeed, he stated that, according to his estimate, Ethereum Spot ETFs were likely to be available by the end of the summer.
The funny thing is that Gary Gensler has had to deal with a lot of criticism, and his organization has sometimes been an obstacle to the development of the crypto ecosystem. Which I don’t think is untrue.
According to Senator Bill Hagerty, the SEC’s initiatives could be detrimental to this emerging and dynamic sector, and lead to a flight of talent and companies outside US borders.
