During a meeting of Ethereum (ETH) developers last week, it was estimated that the Pectra update could be deployed in the first quarter of 2025. What are the key points of this update?
Ethereum: The Pectra Update Expected to Arrive Early 2025
The Ethereum blockchain frequently undergoes major updates, introducing important innovations. The latest update, Dencun, was in March. The next major milestone is the Pectra update, bringing significant changes, particularly in staking and account abstraction.
During a developers’ meeting held last week, it was suggested that the timeline for implementing Pectra could be the first quarter of 2025.
Often, these timelines are provided as indicative only, as numerous factors come into play that can delay these projections. Once the Ethereum Improvement Proposals (EIPs) to be integrated have been agreed upon, the consensus layer and execution layer clients need to be updated and tested on various testnets before deployment on the mainnet.
For Pectra, we have the example of EIP-7251, which aims to increase the validation nodes’ capacity from 32 ETH to the possibility of staking 32 to 2,048 ETH per node. With the network surpassing one million validators, this number could significantly decrease. This change allows large operators to streamline operations without compromising security.
Another important point concerns account abstraction. Here, where EIP-3074 was initially supposed to be introduced, it was ultimately EIP-7702. This should constitute a major advancement in terms of smart contract wallets.

While these 2 EIPs serve as ambassadors for the Pectra update, there are also other improvements in the pipeline. Therefore, we will be able to revisit them as the work progresses.
Meanwhile, the price of Ethereum’s ETH has increased by 3.43% in the last 24 hours, now trading at over $3,900 with a market capitalization of $472 billion.
