After accepting cryptocurrency donations for his presidential campaign, Donald Trump doubled down this weekend on his social network, Truth Social. The candidate expressed that he is “very positive and open-minded towards cryptocurrency companies,” while also generously criticizing his opponent, Joe Biden.
Donald Trump reaffirms pro-crypto stance
The upcoming US presidential election will take place on November 5th. As this deadline approaches, the topic of cryptocurrencies is gaining more and more importance in the political debate.
While the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has reversed its position on Ethereum (ETH) spot ETFs and Joe Biden ultimately did not veto the FIT21 bill, Donald Trump openly plays the card of being a crypto enthusiast.
For the Republican candidate, the latest example is accepting donations in cryptocurrencies, as well as a message posted on Saturday on Truth Social, a social network that he himself founded :
I’m very positive and open-minded to cryptocurrency companies and all things related to this new, evolving industry. Our country must be the leader in this field. There is no second place. The dishonest Joe Biden, on the other hand, the worst president in our country’s history, wants her to die a slow and painful death. That will never happen with me!
Trump: “Pro-Crypto and Open-Minded”
It is evident that this is a political speech, but such statements are in complete opposition to those the former president made a few years ago. For example, in 2021, he declared that “Bitcoin just looks like a scam.”
Since then, his stance has evolved. After launching several collections of non-fungible tokens (NFTs), he is now trying to capitalize on the political influence of cryptocurrencies to gather support.
Regardless of the outcome of the election and the extent to which the elected candidate will fulfill their promises, this atmosphere could potentially benefit the market in the short term. In response to this, we can also observe whether or not the Democratic camp will revise its position.
Meanwhile, Bitcoin (BTC) is trading at $68,500.
